Snowshoeing is a simple yet brilliant way of discovering the wonders of winter, whatever the level of challenge you’re looking for. It’s technically much less demanding than skiing, so you’ll master them in a matter of minutes, leaving you free to explore winter for years to come.
The Guide Val d’Aran team will provide you with snowshoes and ski or trekking poles (which will help you with your rhythm and your balance). This way, the only specialised gear you’ll need for the more advanced trips is an avalanche beacon, shovel and probe.
Walking on snow with the help of snowshoes is a great way of travelling through the winter landscape without needing the technical knowhow of a skier.
Snowshoes spread your weight over a greater surface area so that your feet don’t sink so far into the snow. Most modern snowshoes are made of light metal or plastic. Your heel is ‘free’, like in cross country skiing, which makes it easier to walk.
If you can walk, you can go snowshoeing!
